The Rhode Island Interfaith Coalition to Reduce Poverty hosts its 11th annual conference on May 8 from 8 a.m.–12:30 p.m. at Rhode Island College’s Donovan Dining Center. Registration begins at 7:45 a.m.

The conference’s special guest keynote speaker is Rev. Aundreia Alexander Esq., Associate General Secretary for Joint Action and Advocacy for Justice and Peace for the National Council of Churches (NCC). In addition to the keynote, the conference features workshops on housing discrimination, fair wages and bolstering programs for children and families. Each workshop will educate attendees on issues impacting poverty in Rhode Island and help explore ways that communities can become better advocates for change.

“Rhode Island has the highest poverty rate in New England. One in nine people live in poverty, hunger in Rhode Island is more prevalent than it was 10 years ago, and one in eight households is food insecure. As people of faith we are called to help those who are struggling. Our annual conference is a great way for people across the state to come together with some of our area’s leading experts and advocates working on the front lines to find ways that we can be better advocates for change,” said Victoria Strang, director and lead organizer of The Rhode Island Interfaith Coalition to Reduce Poverty.

Tickets are $35 per person and include breakfast. Register and purchase tickets online at http://www.tinyurl.com/interfaith2019.
