WAKEFIELD, R.I. – Jacqueline C. Hodosh passed away March 19. Known to all who loved her as “Jackie,” she was married on June 15, 1952, to the late Dr. Milton Hodosh. Their marriage thrived for 57 years until Milton’s untimely passing. Jackie was born in Stamford, Connecticut, on Feb. 22, 1930, the only child of her late parents, Alex and Sadie (Torgan) Cohen.

Shortly after the end of World War II, Jackie met Milton on Narragansett Beach when she was just 17. Milton had proudly served his country during the war and cut a chiseled figure. From the day they met on that beach they were inseparable. They were married five years later at Temple Emanu-El in Providence; they lived in Providence for the rest of their married life. They also spent winters in their beach condominium in Highland Beach, Florida.

In the early years of their marriage Milton studied to become a dentist at Tufts Dental School in Boston while Jackie went to the University of Rhode Island to study nursing and ultimately transferred to Forsyth Institute in Boston, where she received a degree in dental hygiene. Jackie worked for several years for a local dentist and was the family breadwinner while Milton was completing his studies.

After Milton’s graduation the couple returned to Rhode Island. Jackie worked for several years as a dental hygienist both before and after starting a family. The couple had three children; Steven, Alex and Gail and settled down on the East Side of Providence. When Milton launched his own practice, Jackie gave up her career to be a full-time mom. She later assisted Milton in multiple capacities including hygienist, bookkeeper and administrator as he built his practice.

As the matriarch of the family, Jackie spent much of her time traveling to see her family, arranging family get-togethers, hosting her extended family to sumptuous dinners or trips, and administering to her four beloved grandchildren; Cameron, Ainsley, Benjamin and Sarah, whom she lavished with heaps of love, support and gifts. Jackie loved the family time spent at Gail’s summer home on Martha’s Vineyard where the extended family would congregate each summer.
