"Providence Lost": An Interfaith Screening

Posted

On Thursday, July 11, from 7-9 p.m., faith leaders and community members in Rhode Island will gather in the Dwares JCC Baxt Social Hall for a screening of  a short film by Oscar Dupuy d'Angeac, followed by a panel and public conversation about evictions and policy solutions.

"Providence Lost," a short nonfiction film, follows a family undergoing an eviction and their subsequent search for a new home. In 2018, the Trottiers were one of more than 13,000 households to be evicted in Rhode Island. Their struggle against soaring rents and a dysfunctional safety net is shared by a majority of renters across the state. This portrait of a city divided, caught between the promise of glamorous development and the reality of our current housing crisis, forces us to reckon with the human cost of change, and asks us to imagine the possibility of a city for all.

The film is produced by Signs of Providence. The evening is sponsored by the Jewish Alliance of Greater Rhode Island, the RI Interfaith Coalition to Reduce Poverty and the RI State Council of Churches.
