Sarah Cohen Shapiro, 94

PROVIDENCE – Sarah Shapiro, a lifelong resident of Providence, died June 18.  She was a homemaker and businesswoman with a flair for poetry in English and her native Yiddish.

She was the wife of the late Emil Shapiro, sister of Leonard Cohen, mother of Sandra Shapiro and Samuel Shapiro, sister-in-law of Goldie Cohen, mother-in-law of John Kirsch and Suellen Goldstein Shapiro and grandmother of Seth Emil Shapiro.

Shiva will be observed at her late residence Thursday, June 20, from 6-8 p.m., and continues Sunday and Monday, from 7-9 p.m., at the home of Sandra Shapiro and John Kirsch in Cambridge, Mass.
