Sophie Winoker, 90

WARWICK, R.I. – Sophie Winoker died March 1 at Greenwood Center.  She was the beloved wife of the late Myron Winoker. Born in Vienna, Austria, a daughter of the late Leo and Rose (Altschuler) Pepper, she had lived in Warwick since 1961, previously living in Providence.

She worked in sales at Shepard’s, JCPenney and Van’s Figure Beauty for 10 years, before working as a telemarketer for 1 1/2 years. Sophie was a life member of Hadassah and the former Jewish Home for the Aged and was a former Pioneer Woman.  She was also a member of the Arthritis Foundation and the Chabad Chai Center of Warwick.  

She was the devoted mother of Sanford Winoker and his wife, Helen, of Colombia, Maryland, and Merrill Winoker of Warwick.  She was the dear sister of Alfred Pepper of Las Vegas, Nevada, and sister-in-law of James Winoker and his wife, Marilyn, of Cranston.  She was the loving grandmother of Chagai and his wife, Allison, and Maya and her husband, Joshua.  She was the cherished great-grandmother of Nina, Gabriel, Josephine and Matan.
