PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Alan Courtney, of Providence, passed away May 5 in the Miriam Hospital. He was the husband of the late Barbara “Bobbie” (Gordon) Courtney to whom he has been married for 41 years.

Born and raised in New York City, New York, a son of the late Max and Rose (Heller) Courtney, he lived in Palm Beach, Florida, for over 20 years before returning to Providence in 2004.

A graduate of Bronx High School, class of 1945, he received a Bachelor of Arts from the Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania.

He worked in the garment industry for several years before working in real estate until retiring.

He is survived by two children, Kerri Courtney and Michael Courtney; granddaughter, Lacey Zavelovich and great-grandchildren, Lily and Zoey. Bobbie’s two daughters, Susan Hamin and Deborah Hamin; Bobbie’s grandchildren, Lily Hamin and Scott Lilienthal. He was the brother of the late Helen Michaels.
