PROVIDENCE – On Dec. 7, the Jewish Alliance of Greater Rhode Island hosted the highly anticipated B'nai Mitzvah Gala, an elegant affair that brought together the entire community in a celebration of unity, reflection and hope for the future. Held in the Victor and Gussie Baxt Social Hall at the Dwares Jewish Community Center, the evening featured unforgettable live musical performances by renowned musicians Rabbi Noam Katz and Gad Elbaz, who used their music to foster a spirit of togetherness and create an atmosphere of community celebration.
“Everything about the evening exceeded my expectations! The Dwares JCC was completely transformed to a level I’ve not seen before. The energy, vibe and level of excitement in the room was palpable. Yasher Koach to all those involved for making it a magical night!” said philanthropy co-chair and incoming Alliance Board Chair Marisa Garber.
The Gala was an opportunity to honor the Alliance’s shared and rich history, reflecting on the community’s past, the integration of the Bureau of Jewish Education, the Jewish Community Center and the Jewish Federation while looking toward the bright possibilities in the future. Guests were transported by the melodies of Katz and Elbaz, whose performances captured the essence of Jewish heritage and culture; their music beautifully underscored the themes of the evening, highlighting the importance of coming together as a community to ensure a thriving future for generations to come.
“The Gala was an unforgettable night! It was amazing to see the whole community come together – there was so much energy, excitement and heart in the room. It was truly a celebration of everything that makes us vibrant and strong!” said Hanina and Avi Rosenstein.
The 225 guests gathered for a powerful candle-lighting ceremony that served as a reminder of the strength that lies within the community’s connection. The collective energy of all in attendance created an atmosphere of support, hope and celebration.
“It was a memorable evening on so many levels. Seeing a cross section of the greater Rhode Island Jewish community, in terms of age, observance and geography, gather under the roof of the Bonnie and Donald Dwares JCC in celebration of the Alliance’s existence was personally rewarding and, hopefully, a steppingstone for the future of the Alliance, its donors, its partners and its beneficiaries,” Event Co-Chair Doug Emanuel said.
The night made a significant philanthropic impact, focusing on programs and services supported by the Community Campaign, such as the kosher food pantry at Jewish Collaborative Services, antisemitism work through the Jewish Alliance and a range of formal and informal Jewish education and outreach programs implemented by local day schools, summer camps and college campus Hillels. The Gala raised upwards of $130,000. These funds will directly benefit initiatives that support the ongoing growth and vibrancy of the community, ensuring that future generations will continue to experience the same sense of belonging and connection that made the evening so special.
The Kids' Bash at the Gala was an absolute blast packed with non-stop fun and excitement! Kids rocked out at the silent disco as they jammed to their favorite tunes through colorful wireless headphones. The cotton candy machine spun out clouds of sugary sweetness while laser tag turned the gym into an epic battle zone filled with laughter and friendly competition. And, of course, the ice cream sundae bar was a dream come true, letting everyone pile on the toppings for the ultimate sweet treat. It was a night of pure joy and unforgettable memories!
“The success of this evening was a powerful reminder that when we come together, we achieve extraordinary things. This event undoubtedly leaves a legacy and sets the stage for more moments of celebration and togetherness in the future,” said Harris Chorney, chair of the board of the Alliance.
A giant thank you to the many sponsors and local businesses that donated in-kind and support to ensure the evening’s success. A commemorative plaque will be hung mid-winter at the Dwares JCC’s Salmanson Family Upper Lobby marking the celebration.
