Ukraine emergency relief fund tops $210,000

Posted

Just a few weeks ago, the Jewish community of Rhode Island mobilized a campaign, led by the Jewish Alliance of Greater Rhode Island, to support relief efforts in Ukraine. As we publish, more than $210,000 has been raised, according to Sara Masri, chief development officer for the Alliance. These funds will be sent to Alliance overseas partners such as the American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee (JDC), working in Eastern Europe to help refugees from Ukraine.

Ukraine has one of the world’s largest Jewish communities, estimated at over 200,000, and the humanitarian crisis is one that gets more dire by the day.

Humanitarian efforts are underway both in Ukraine and in neighboring nations that have taken in refugees. Agencies working with refugees, including the JDC, have identified these immediate needs:

  • Clothing and daily hygiene supplies
  • Food
  • Medications and medical appointments
  • Hotel rooms
  • Cellphones and other ways to keep in contact with families
  • Teachers and educational supplies to maintain some sense of normalcy for children

You can still make a donation to the Ukraine Relief Campaign by going to https://www.jewishallianceri.org/donate/ or sending a check to the Jewish Alliance of Greater Rhode Island, 401 Elmgrove Avenue, Providence, RI 02906 – Memo line Ukraine Relief.
