PROVIDENCE – The Jewish Alliance of Greater Rhode Island will host an informal discussion on Sept. 26 with the candidates running for former state Sen. Gayle Goldin’s seat, Dist. 3, Providence.

Goldin, a Democrat, announced in mid-August that she has accepted a position in President Joe Biden’s administration.

The Jewish Alliance welcomes the community to meet the candidates on Sept. 26, 10 to 11:30 a.m., for informal conversation as well as remarks from the candidates. Candidates participating, as of publication, are Alex Cannon, Hilary Levey Friedman, Geena Pham, Ray Rickman and Sam Zurier.

Weather permitting, the meet-and-greet will be held outside in the sukkah, in the courtyard behind the Alliance’s Dwares Jewish Community Center, 401 Elmgrove Ave.

A sukkah is a temporary booth, or hut, that some Jews build during the holiday of Sukkot, which this year is Sept. 20-27. According to tradition, the sukkah represents the huts in which the Israelites dwelled during their 40 years of wandering in the desert after escaping from slavery in Egypt.

In case of inclement weather, the event will be held indoors, at the JCC, with masks required for all, regardless of vaccination status.

The primary election is Oct. 5.
