Mezuzot available to any Jewish home in Rhode Island

Posted

A group of Jewish organizations from across Rhode Island are offering a free Mezuzah to any Jewish home in need of one. All you have to do is sign-up, and a member of one of the organizations will come to your home and, in a Covid friendly fashion, help you put up the Mezuzah.

So what is a Mezuzah and why do I want/need it?

Since the times of the Exodus from Egypt the Mezuzah has protected, connected and been a symbol of peace for every Jewish home and community across the world. The Mezuzah is a small scroll of parchment placed in a case or tube and attached to the doorpost of one's home. An ordained scribe writes upon the parchment, the sections from the book of Deuteronomy 6:4-9 and 11:13-31, which teach that Jews should “write these words [the Shema statement that there is but one, unique God] on the doorposts of your house and upon your gates.”

This program is being sponsored by local families who recently lost loved ones. By putting up a Mezuzah in their memory, you will be part of the everlasting legacy of these amazing Jewish men and women.

Project Shoresh of RI, Providence Community Kollel, Chabad of RI will distribute the mezuzot.
