Unconditional Love: A Guide to Navigating the Joys and Challenges of Being a Grandparent Today
Thursday, May 16 | 7:00pm | Dwares JCC
For many grandparents, having a grandchild is the chance to become the parent they didn’t have the time or energy to be with their own children. Jewish Book Council author and family relationships expert Jane Isay will share her extensive research into the psychology of being a grandparent in today’s world. Isay will discuss how a grandparent – though no longer in charge – can use his/her unique perspective and experience to create a deep and lasting bond that will echo throughout a grandchild’s life. She explores the realities of today’s multigenerational families, identifies problems, and offers solutions to enhance love, trust, and understanding among grandparents, parents, and grandchildren. Isay also offers a wealth of practical advice on when to get involved, when to stay away, and how to foster a strong relationship when you’re separated by long distance.
Being a parent is not always easy, but you don’t have to do it alone. Our parent workshops are designed to provide knowledge and skills, and build community to help navigate through hard times and find joy in good times. These workshops are brought to you through a partnership between PJ Library/PJ Our Way, the David C. Isenberg Family Early Childhood Center, and the Jewish Community Day School of Rhode Island.
