Chabad students in Rhode Island

Posted

Approximately 70 years ago, the Lubavitcher Rebbe, Rabbi Menachem Mendel Shneerson, instituted a program for young rabbinic students to visit Jewish communities in an effort to raise Jewish awareness and pride. Each year, hundreds of students devote their summer break to spending time in rural areas and big cities alike. Some bring kosher food and Jewish literature to places that have none, while others visit more established communities, seeking out estranged youth and those who have not yet felt the warmth of Judaism, exposing them to the beauty, meaning, and relevance of Jewish heritage.

This summer, Chabad of Rhode Island and Rabbi Yehoshua Laufer welcomed a number of these students. Two of them, Shneur Wilhelm and Yehuda Chanowitz, who have studied this past year at the Rabbinical College of America, in Morristown, New Jersey, documented some of the activities.
