100th birthday – Beatrice Wattman Miller celebrated her 100th birthday luncheon with 55 well wishers from Rhode Island, Massachusetts, Connecticutt, New Hampshire, Maryland and Florida on Sunday, Sept. 22.
A lifelong resident of Providence and Barrington Beach, Bea graduated from Brown University, Class of 1935, received a Teaching Certificate from RIC and a Master of Library Science from URI in 1968.
She has been a social worker and was the Librarian/Media Specialist at Nathan Bishop Middle School for 15 years.
Known for her keen bridge playing since childhood, she is a National Life Master of Contract Bridge.
Bea was married to Meyer S. Miller for 40 years before his death; they had two children, Caryl-Ann Miller Nieforth and Donald E. Miller, Esq. Bea now has three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. She was the sister of the late Irving Wattman and Edwin (Bunty) Wattman, D.D.S.
“We had a fine party today,” said daughter Caryl-Ann. “Mother enjoyed every minute of it and everyone gave her a standing ovation when she entered. When the birthday cake was brought in, she displayed her marvelous sense of humor and said, “Don’t cut it! I want to bring it home.”
