Aerial banner flies over Brown graduation

Did you see the airplane trailing a banner high over the East Side of Providence Sunday? Wonder what it meant?

The Rhode Island Coalition for Israel along with a group of Brown alumni arranged for the flyover display during Sunday’s graduation. The plane made a wide loop and was visible for miles, including the East Side and from the Henderson Bridge from East Providence into Providence.

The group gathered on George Street near the entrance to the Brown University Green to show support for Israel. They waved Israeli and American flags and held signs.

Nearby a loud gathering of Brown students, Brown alumni for Palestine and others chanted in favor of divestment from Israel and in support of Palestinians.

RICI members and others also gathered across from a graduation event on Saturday at the First Baptist Church in America on North Main Street.
