PROVIDENCE — The Rhode Island Coalition for Israel (RICI) will honor Rhode Island-Israel Collaborative founder Avi Nevel at its annual Sy Dill Mensch of the Year Awards Fundraiser Nov. 15.

RICI is inviting pro-Israel Rhode Islanders to “celebrate our accomplishments and set our sights on future progress by joining our movement to stand up for Israel, the Jewish people and our sacred democratic values.”

Nevel, RIIC founder and chief executive officer, will headline the event as keynote speaker. In addition, he will be honored with RICI's annual Sy Dill Mensch of the Year Award, which goes to “a proud Zionist who has demonstrated continued advocacy for Israel and Jewish causes.” Nevel will be honored especially for supporting commerce between Israel and Rhode Island.

RICI's Advocacy Award will be presented to Dr. May-Tal Sauerbrun-Cutler, a faculty member at the Warren Alpert Medical School at Brown University. She will be honored for her work advocating on behalf of Jewish students at Brown and her service as co-chair of the RIIC healthcare committee.

In addition, the group will present the RICI Lifetime Recognition Award to founding RICI board member Stanley Freedman for his lifetime of dedication to Israel and the Jewish community in Rhode Island.

The event will feature an Israeli wine-tasting, storytelling and a chance to connect with others who love Israel. Aside from wine, kosher small bites and desserts will be served.

According to the coalition, space is still available and the location will be sent immediately upon registration via email. Armed security will be present, and free street parking will be available as well as a parking lot.
