Alan Litwin traveled to Poland with his daughter, Madison, as part of a group organized by Temple Emanu-El.
“No book, movie or lecture could ever have prepared us properly,” Litwin said.
The father-daughter duo took part in the eleventh annual Ride For The Living, a 60-mile bike ride from Auschwitz-Birkenau to the Jewish Community Center in Krakow, Poland. After the Nazi concentration camps were liberated eight decades ago, many survivors made the same trek — on foot.
The father-and-daughter duo then made their way to Warsaw with the group from the synagogue, later journeying to Ciechanow, the town from which Litwin’s family emigrated.
