Genealogist shares search for Crypto-Jewish ancestors

Touro Synagogue Foundation announces the second event of its 2024 Judah Touro Program Series. Genealogist Genie Milgrom will present a Zoom program on Thursday, May 9, at 7 p.m. Milgrom will share the story of her journey as she crossed the globe in search of her Crypto-Jewish ancestors. She can fully document an unbroken maternal lineage of 22 generations, going back as far as 1405, before the Inquisition in Spain and Portugal.

Milgrom was born to a Roman Catholic family of Spanish ancestry in Havana, Cuba. She has written several award-winning books, “My 15 Grandmothers,” “How I Found My 15 Grandmothers, A Step By Step Guide” and her latest book, “Pyre to Fire.” She is the president of Tarbut Sefarad-Fermoselle in Spain and past president of the Jewish Genealogical Society of Greater Miami and the Society for Crypto-Judaic Studies. She has spoken at the Knesset in Israel and throughout the world about Jews returning from the Inquisition.
