Marcus Rand, 84

NARRAGANSETT, R.I. – Marcus Rand died Dec. 2. He was the son of the late Saul and Betty Finkelstein. He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Eleanor (Tesler), and his daughter, Susan Rand Celico, of Hope Valley and his son Michael, as well as grandchildren, Marcus Isaac, and Mary Eleanor Rand, all of Narragansett, R.I. He was born in Providence and lived in South County for most of his adult life.

He earned his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the University of Rhode Island, where he was employed for 29 years as Associate Dean of Undergraduate Admissions. Before working at URI, he was a high school teacher in North Kingstown.

He belonged to many civic and educational organizations and served as president of the Indian Lake Shores Fire District and president of the Guidance and Personnel Association of Rhode Island.

He was a veteran of the Korean War, proudly serving in the U.S. Coast Guard, lastly on the Buoy tender, SPAR.
