Nathan Shwartz, 91

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Nathan Shwartz passed away on Dec. 9. He was the husband of Beatrice “Bea” (Exter) Shwartz. Born in Providence, he was a son of the late Sam and Sadie (Bilgrier) Shwartz. He lived in Cranston for more than 50 years before moving to Warwick in 2006.

In 1946, with his father, he founded S&W Television and Appliances in Providence, where he worked until retirement. He served in the US Army during WWII – European Theatre.

He was the patriarch of his family and a former member of Temple Sinai.  He was a longtime member of the Galilee Tuna Club and won the US Atlantic Tuna Tournament in 1959.

Besides his wife, he is survived by his children Barbara Kaplan (Ira), Sharon, Mass.,s and Larry Shwartz (Roslyn), Cranston; 4 granddaughters; and 5 great grandchildren.  He was the brother of the late Molly Winoker and Walter Schwartz.
