In celebration of Black History Month, “Black-Jewish Relations: Why Should We Care?” is the topic of the “Time for Me” Adult Education series at Temple Habonim in Barrington.

On Sunday, February 9, at 1 p.m., a light lunch will be followed by the program with Professor Cheryl Greenberg of Trinity College at 1:30 p.m. Greenberg will look back at the history of Black-Jewish relations in the 20th century and explore racism, anti-Semitism, class, liberalism and affirmative action. She will speak on the changes that have occurred since Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. marched arm-in-arm with Rabbi Abraham Joshua Heschel and since the ugly confrontations have taken place in Ocean Hill-Brownsville or Crown Heights.

Dr. Cheryl Greenberg teaches courses in African American history and the history of race in the United States, as well as courses on crime, discrimination and social justice movements. She has authored the book “Troubling Waters: Black-Jewish Relations in the American Century,” as well as books on civil rights, Harlem and the Great Depression.
