Two opportunities to hear Ben Freeman in R.I.

The Jewish community in Rhode Island will have two opportunities in March to hear Jewish author and educator Ben Freeman discuss his new book, “The Jews: An Indigenous People.”

On March 25, from 5:30-7 p.m., Freeman will speak at Temple Shalom, in Middletown. On March 26, from 7-8 p.m., he will appear at the Dwares Jewish Community Center, in Providence. Both events are sponsored by the Jewish Alliance of Greater Rhode Island.

Born in Scotland, Freeman is a gay, Jewish, internationally renowned author, educator and Diversity, Equity and Inclusion specialist focusing on Jewish identity, combatting Jew-hatred and raising awareness of the Holocaust. Freeman’s book is a powerful journey through 3,000 years of Jewish history. Exploring the origins of Jewish identity and practice and their resonance today, Freeman expertly weaves together anthropology and archaeology while examining globally recognized criteria for indigeneity.

This project is supported through the generous support of the Gertrude and Seebert Goldowsky Foundation.

Temple Shalom is at 223 Valley Road, Middletown, RI 02842. A reception begins at 5:30 p.m., and the program starts at 6 p.m. You can register for the free program here.
