View short Israeli films at Day-at-the-J

Posted

Five short Israeli films will be shown at the Day-at-the-J on Sunday, Feb. 27, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Stop by any time between these hours, and you may catch one, two or all five, as some may be shown twice. Amit Moshe Oren, Rhode Island shaliach (Israeli emissary), picked these films since they highlight unique aspects of Israel that may be unfamiliar to people. They also span a few genres, including comedy and drama.

“The Kiddush Man” is a short film about the amusing rivalry between an Israeli boy and an older man with the backdrop of an Israeli synagogue.

“Over the Wall” is about an Israeli boy who meets a Palestinian boy and discovers the truth isn't what he's told.

“Under a Tree” is about an old widower who immigrated from the Soviet Union and meets an old woman during one of his daily trips around the block – changing his life.

“Automation” is a stop-motion short film about the panic attacks and hallucinations the main character Haim gets every time he hears a rocket alarm in Sderot, the city where he lives.

“Gefilte Fish” is a comedic short film about the absurd traditions of an Israeli family.

All of the films have English subtitles though most have extended periods of action without dialogue. The films are approximately 10-20 minutes long. You do not have to register to attend this program. Drop in any time from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. For more information, contact Amit at AOren@jewishallianceri.org.
