Benji Lovitt will have to wake up really early to open this year’s Israeli Culture Series Sept. 9. The comedian lives in Tel Aviv where he will perform his shtick live for the event that takes in Providence via Zoom at 7 p.m.

Benji’s hilarious and satirical take on daily life and current events in Israel has made him one of the most popular and most followed social commentators in the Jewish world today. Known for his “finger on the pulse” articles and social media updates, Benji regularly writes and shares his distinctive insights about Israeli elections, pop culture, the Arab-Israeli conflict and everything in between. Whether times are good or bad in the Holy Land, many count on Benji for their up-to-the minute online morale boosts.

A stand-up comedian originally from Dallas, Benji Lovitt’s observations on Israeli society create a hilarious narrative that has brought smiles to faces all over the world. He enables people to engage deeply with the American/Israeli cultural divide through humor.

Since making aliyah (moving to Israel) in 2006, comedian Benji Lovitt has performed for audiences around the world including Birthright Israel, Jewish Federations, synagogues, Hillels and more. His perspectives have been featured on Israeli television and radio and in outlets such as USA Today, Time Magazine, BBC Radio, The Atlantic and the Times of Israel. Benji has worked as a cross-cultural trainer with groups including the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Benji’s stand-up routine will take place on Zoom and be followed by a question-and-answer period. Register now at Jewishallianceri.org/comedynight. This event is free of charge.

The next two programs of the Israeli Culture Series will feature authors through the Jewish Book Council. On Oct. 14, Kenneth Stern, author of “The Conflict Over the Conflict: The Israel/Palestine Campus Debate,” will speak. On Nov. 11, Mark Werner, author of “A Passion for Israel: Adventures of a Sar-el Volunteer,” will speak. Both programs will be on Zoom at 7 p.m.
