WARWICK, R.I. — Lloyd S. Kaplan, 93, died Sept 5 at Kent Hospital. He was the beloved husband of Sheila (Berger) Kaplan for 66 years. Born in Fall River, Massachusetts, a son of the late Abraham and Tillie (Siegel) Kaplan, he lived in Warwick since 2009, previously living in Providence.
Kaplan was a music teacher and professor at numerous schools, including Hugh B. Bain Junior High School, Scituate Junior High School and Scituate Senior High School, Brown University Extension School, Community College of Rhode Island, Coastal Carolina University, Osher Lifelong Learning Institute and the University of Rhode Island. The first music teacher to be recognized and inducted into the Rhode Island Music Hall of Fame, he devoted his life to music and his family. He never fully retired.
Lloyd was a Korean conflict U.S. Army veteran.
Devoted father of Marjorie Seidenfeld and her husband, Mark, of New Rochelle, New York, and Mitchell Kaplan and his wife, Eleanor, of Providence. Dear brother of the late Morton “Sonny” Kaplan, Rosalyn Jacobson and Rita Stein. Loving grandfather of Noraa, Rebecca, Michael, Talia and Jonah.
